Adaptive Smoothing Methods for Frequency-domain Identification

چکیده
The determination of resolution parameter when estimating frequency functions of linear systems is a trade-off between bias and variance. Traditional approaches, like “window-closing” employ a global resolution parameter – the window width – that is tuned by ad hoc methods, usually visual inspection of the results. Here we explore more sophisticated estimation methods, based on local polynomial modeling, that tune such parameters by automatic procedures. A further benefit is that the tuning can be performed locally, i.e., that different resolutions can be used in different frequency bands. The approach is thus a conceptually simple and useful alternative to more established multi-resolution techniques like wavelets. The advantages of the method are illustrated in two numerical examples.

An Adaptive Physics-Based Method for the Solution of One-Dimensional Wave Motion Problems
In this paper, an adaptive physics-based method is developed for solving wave motion problems in one dimension (i.e., wave propagation in strings, rods and beams). The solution of the problem includes two main parts. In the first part, after discretization of the domain, a physics-based method is developed considering the conservation of mass and the balance of momentum. In the second part, ada...
متن کاملA new adaptive exponential smoothing method for non-stationary time series with level shifts
Simple exponential smoothing (SES) methods are the most commonly used methods in forecasting and time series analysis. However, they are generally insensitive to non-stationary structural events such as level shifts, ramp shifts, and spikes or impulses. Similar to that of outliers in stationary time series, these non-stationary events will lead to increased level of errors in the forecasting pr...
متن کاملConvergence Analysis of EFOP Estimate Based on Frequency Domain Smoothing
The classic methods for frequency domain transfer function estimation such as the Empirical Transfer Function Estimate (ETFE) and cross spectral method do not work well when the noise signal is complex. Combines the time domain and frequency domain methods the Empirical Frequency-domain Optimal Parameter (EFOP) Estimate was presented. It could improve the precision of system’s transfer function...
متن کاملMultiscale Adaptive Smoothing Models for the Hemodynamic Response Function in Fmri By
In the event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data analysis, there is an extensive interest in accurately and robustly estimating the hemodynamic response function (HRF) and its associated statistics (e.g., the magnitude and duration of the activation). Most methods to date are developed in the time domain and they have utilized almost exclusively the temporal information of...
متن کاملEqualisation of Broadband Mimo Channels by Subband Adaptive Identification and Analytic Inversion
This paper introduces the subband method of performing adaptive identification and analytic inversion of broadband MIMO channels. It shows that the techniques can potentially lower the computational cost while improving the performance for highly frequency-selective channel with a long impulse response. It covers subband adaptive identification and shows two methods to invert a broadband MIMO c...
